Industry Experience & Contacts

Tom served almost 13 years in increasing leadership roles at Barton Malow Company, a $1.6 billion national construction services firm. He began as General Counsel in 1997, was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2001, then became Executive Vice President in 2004. As Executive Vice President, he was a top leader of the company until late 2009, when he left to become a private consultant to others. Before Barton Malow, Tom's involvement with construction industry issues included service as a civil trial and appellate attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice and handling construction cases as part of his business litigation practice at the Dykema Gossett law firm.  Since forming TPS, Tom has deepened his industry involvement by handling assignments for clients, providing association leadership and service, doing public speaking and teaching, and conducting extensive research and networking on a national basis.

Tom's work in the construction industry gives him an extensive network of contacts across the United States. His colleagues in the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) have included executives from other major firms including general contractors, designers, specialty contractors, and owners. He has worked closely with senior leaders in the construction insurance and surety markets.
